These were actually thrown from floats in New Orleans from former Mardi Gras' so condition may vary. Feel free to email me with any requests. *** All lots are pre-made so actual Mardi Gras krewes may vary*** The first doubloon was thrown by the Krewe of Rex in 1960. Since that time they have been the most treasured throw and a collector's item for many. Rex selected the official Mardi Gras colors in 1872. The 1892 Rex Parade theme Symbolism of Colors gave meaning to the colors: purple represents justice; green, faith; and gold, power. New Orleans Mardi Gras begins in early January and runs through to Fat Tuesday. There's a craziness in the air as most of the city shuts down to celebrate during the last two weeks before Lent.
